For he says,
“At an acceptable time I have listened to you,
and on a day of salvation I have helped you.”
and on a day of salvation I have helped you.”
See, now is the acceptable time; see, now is the day of salvation!" 2 Corinthians 6:1-2
"Now is the day of salvation," writes the Apostle Paul. Doesn't salvation comes when I die and go to be with God in heaven? No, says Paul, now is the day. Salvation is not some future event. God's love has already broken into the world in the person of Jesus Christ and presence of the Holy Spirit. We experience and share God's saving love in Jesus now.
Pastor Margaret Mary Kelly is doing just that by using a food truck to feed the homeless in St. Paul, MN. She writes, "We have the audacity to believe that God is at work in our midst despite the addictions, the hunger, the mental illness and the homelessness. We dare to trust that God is calling us into new life now. I implore you to trust and believe that the time is now." What are you doing now to bring God's saving love to another person? This can happen in many ways, near and far. It can happen in your family, it can happen in your church, and it can happen through supporting the work of Shobi's Table, the ministry of Pastor Kelly's food truck. No matter what the opportunity before you, do it now. "See, now is the acceptable time; see, now is the day of salvation."
Rev. Margaret Kelly's bold call to trust and allow God to work through us now, reminds me of the inscription on the back of our Via de Cristo crosses: Christ is counting on you.
